Throughout this unit, I created 6 blog post to showcase what I have learned about audio storytelling and how I have evolved as a digital storyteller. Audio plays such a huge role in storytelling. The rest of this post will display all of my creations and thoughts on audio. Enjoy!

About Audio Storytelling

With the four-part series by Ira Glass on storytelling, I was able to understand storytelling in a new way and expand my skills and knowledge on how to effectively tell a story. I enjoyed listening to these videos very much because I was able to pinpoint how he is using some of his own tips while giving them! Click here to get a more in-depth synopsis of what Glass says about storytelling from my point of view.

Audio Story Reflection

For this assignment, I picked out one of the episodes from the Spooked podcast titled “Possession.” It wasn’t too scary because I know it isn’t real, but the techniques they used to convey certain ideas were extremely effective and I was able to note some of them. You can check that out here!

My Three Audio Stories

What Paris Sounds Like: With this assignment, I layered the sounds of french music, women laughing, children playing, and a bike riding past to help get the idea that the listener is standing in front of the Eiffel Tower with their eyes closed. (a trip through sound)

Me Talking to Me: This audio story tells us about two people who take a trip to the zoo and then learn what animals are native to Santiago and Easter Island, all through a dialogue. One of the characters is an edited version of my voice! (create a conversation with another person)

The Heist of the Century: This story features a news report about a heist on Easter Island resulting in all of the Moai statues going missing! This uses an AI text-to-speech bot as the news reporter. (breaking news)

Daily Creates

Here is my chance to show off my creativity from this week with my Daily Creates!

Summary

Overall, this unit gave me opportunity to learn and grow, and I really feel like I did! Now having the ability to add audio to boost any story, will allow me to create better than I was before, like mentioned by Ira Glass in part 3. Goodbye Audio Unit!

XOXO,

Kate
